We are excited to announce that our school community will be celebrating
Numeracy Day early next term on Thursday, July 14.
Although not formally celebrated in Australia (yet!), we have decided to take the
UK’s lead in celebrating the significant part that numbers play in our daily lives.
This exciting event supports our focus of strengthening Mathematics teaching
and learning through our school annual improvement plan.
Students and teachers have been invited to participate in Numeracy Day
through the following activities:
- Outdoor Maths learning
- Maths inquiry tasks and open-ended Maths activities
- SMOTC Number Heroes competition
- Fancy dress – favourite number/s or Maths item costume
Families are also encouraged to participate in this special celebration through
engagement with following resources:
- Supporting your child to participate in the SMOTC Maths dress up and
Number Heroes competition for Numeracy Day
- Parent information – Short Reads:
- Parent information and activities - Mathematics and numeracy at home:
- Supporting your child to complete open-ended Maths activities (to be shared
in this space in upcoming newsletters)
At SMOTC we love learning, and we look forward to celebrating Numeracy Day
together. Please watch this space for future updates on National Science Week
in August and International Literacy Day and Book Week celebrations in
September.
