News and Events

Advent Seasonhttp://www.stmaryofthecross.qld.edu.au/news-and-events/Pages/Advent-Season.aspxAdvent Season
The weeks of Advent remind us to set aside some of the hectic business of the holiday season, and to quietly reflect on the promise of the baby born in Bethlehem 2000 years ago. God so loved the world that He gave his one and only son. John 3:16

Advent is often spoken about as a time for ‘waiting for the coming of Jesus at Christmas’. Perhaps we could consider that it is a time when God is waiting for each of us; to come and sit with him and acknowledge the light of the Christmas star in the darkness, to give thanks for the gift He gives to us.

The month of December is a time of year when the days are growing warmer and our lists are getting longer. Often we become weary and even a little overwhelmed. Amidst the busyness of the business of Christmas, we need to hear the invitation from Jesus to ‘come to me, you who are weary and I will give your rest.’

May each of you this Advent find moments of peace, hope, joy and love ‘one in Christ’.

May you and your families receive the many blessings of the Christ child in your hearts and homes this Christmas.

With Every Blessing

Principal's Messagehttp://www.stmaryofthecross.qld.edu.au/news-and-events/Pages/Principal's-Message.aspxPrincipal's Message
On Friday 1st December at 11:15am we have our final liturgy for the year in Holy Rosary Church. This is an opportunity to thank God for all we have received and achieved throughout the year, and is a special way to acknowledge our students and staff. All St Mary of the Cross families and our Parish community are welcome to join us.

While it has been another busy year, it has also been very rewarding. I sincerely thank all in our school community who have supported our students and staff throughout the year. Without everyone coming together we would not achieve all the fantastic things that we have at St Mary of the Cross. Thank you!

I wish all families finishing their time at St Mary of the Cross all the best with their future endeavours, especially our Year 6 students. I hope that all families have an opportunity to celebrate the holy season of Christmas together, remembering that Jesus is the reason. May all families have a peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year.

Have a peaceful break

To assist your child to be Cyber Smart you might like to consider discussing some family rules around device usage. A discussion with your child around what meets your family’s needs is an essential dialogue. Common Sense Media has many tips for parents on the topic. The following link provides an example of family media agreements which might assist you in beginning the discussion at home.
https://www.commonsensemedia.org/sites/default/files/uploads/connecting_families/family_media_agreements_k-12.pdf
