Sport Associations Involvement

For those new to our school, St Mary of the Cross is involved in two sporting associations that are an opportunity for our students to participate and extend their sporting skills.

City District Sport:

The City District comprises of a number of schools from the public, private and Catholic sector. All schools in the district are invited to compete in carnivals and trial days for particular sports. These carnivals and trial days are an opportunity for students aged 10 years – 12 years to qualify for selection in the City District Team. The three carnivals held each year are Swimming, Cross Country and Track and Field. Selection for these carnivals is based on performances at their school carnivals, as well as meeting school times, and requires students to meet qualifying times or distances to attend. Trial days are for individual students to gain selection in the City District team to compete at the Regional Carnival for that particular sport. From there they can go on to be selected in the Metropolitan North team to complete at the State Carnival. Trial information is emailed to parents and carers close to the trial date. For further information on the District trials available please head to the City District website.

Zone 6 Sport:

The Zone 6 District is comprised of Catholic Schools from the inner north area. These schools compete in Gala Sport days and three carnivals per year for Swimming, Cross Country and Track and Field. These carnivals are an opportunity for students aged 7 years – 12 years. These carnivals and Gala days are to promote school and team spirit and give students an opportunity to interact, learn new skills and compete with other students of their age. St Mary of the Cross staff will notify students of their selection in the Zone 6 team in the lead up to the Zone 6 Carnivals.
